Supervision & Welfare

At Choices International we take the responsibility for our students extremely seriously – all aspects of safety are considered and we insist on the highest standards from our centres.
Choices International has fully qualified first aid staff and has links nearby with local doctors and hospitals.

The skill and enthusiasm of our dedicated staff has been the single most important factor behind our success. Our staff goes through a strict selection procedure. They are selected for their maturity, qualifications, enthusiasm, experience and common sense.

All our staff attends comprehensive pre-camp training and orientation days. These courses cover a range of topics, from security, fire drills, policies, and procedures, to safety guidelines and site-specific risk assessments for every activity. Meetings between management team and staff take place on a daily basis and senior managers visit regularly to ensure that our procedures are clearly understood and followed.

At our summer camp, we take the safety and well-being of our students very seriously. We follow the British Council standards and guidelines for the care of under 18s which are based on the legal and ethical obligations of ELT providers in the UK.
We also have a strong ethos of care and a supportive environment for our young learners. Here are some of the features of our level of care and support for under 18s:

• We have a clear and comprehensive safeguarding policy and procedure, which covers how we recruit, train, and monitor our staff, how we respond to any welfare or safeguarding concerns, and how we raise awareness of safeguarding issues among our students and staff.
• We have a designated safeguarding lead and a team of trained and qualified staff who are responsible for the welfare and protection of our students. They are available 24/7 to provide guidance, support, and assistance to our students and staff.
• We have a maximum adult-to-student supervision ratio of 10:1 on the junior social programme, and 15:1 in the classroom. We ensure that our staff are always visible, approachable, and attentive to our students’ needs and feedback.
• We have a strict code of conduct and behaviour for our students and staff, which outlines the rules and expectations for living and studying in our summer camp. We also have a clear and fair disciplinary procedure, which explains how we deal with any breaches of the code of conduct or behaviour.
• We have a range of activities and facilities to ensure that our students have a fun and enriching experience at our summer camp. We offer a variety of sports, games, and cultural activities, as well as excursions and trips to local attractions. We also have access to comfortable and secure accommodation, healthy and nutritious meals, and medical and emergency services
